He certainly seems to be nudging that way.
Because every ounce of my body says that is inconceivable. But then I thought him winning the election was equally so, and look what happened there. I just find it hard to fathom what the American public is capable of accepting, and so I have to entertain the idea that enough of the electorate might accept Trump as life-long president. Fuck knows enough voted for the wretched stain in the first place.
So it's a serious and genuine question - what do you think would happen (not 'what would you like to happen') if Trump made the same declaration on the presidency as the Chinese?
There was talk in “progressive” circles about repealing the 22nd amendment to allow His Most Sovereign Majesty Barry O’Bama to be President as long as his adoring public wished to keep electing. It was universally dismissed as silly talk.
The Chinese Constitution is, I guess, more amenable to such things than the American one.
No one in either party would countenance Trump suspending the Constitution. And besides he would be in his 80s then.
Yes. Trump talked about it. IT WAS A FUCKING JOKE. He wasn’t serious.
Before I take your absurd idea seriously, tell us how he would go about it, while st the same time preserving his coalition among those of us who put him there.
I realize that few presidents have taken the Constitution seriously since Truman, but this is much more serious than simply waging war without Congressional declaration. I blame Congress for that. This is about Power.
Stop having deranged fever dreams. 99% if the Republicans wouldn’t allow it. Nor would 95% of those who voted for him.
In China, Parliament abolished term limits. Not what’s his name. All legal and above board.
